Day 54

I have joked frequently this winter season that there is a curse upon our settlement. I begin to believe there is something more than a mere joke to it.

My partner rose early, before dawn, to begin his trek to the hunting grounds. He'll be there the majority of the day and return near dusk. Until then, it's just that barbarians and I at the settlement.

The littlest barbarian never naps well when the older barbarians are in the settlement. Mostly because quiet is not a concept they seem to understand. Noise follows their every waking moment.

Gir and Rar are, as ever, at odds today. Their arguments are loud, irrational, and constant. I have separated them, confining them to their huts with instructions to perform the weekly chores. I suspect that despite the promise of rewards, they will do little around the settlement today.

Rar is still under the weather, his cough echoes through the settlement. Despite his illness he is filled with a manic energy that the confines of our settlement can barely contain.

Contain it, the settlement must. The weather today is more barbarous than the little barbarians. Rain becomes slushy ice in temperatures like this. Not the sort of weather little barbarians can go pillaging in.

It is chores day in our settlement. I believe the older pair is planning a revolt they seem particularly on edge.
