Day 314

Today has been exceptionally trying.

I have been working around the settlement all day, trying to make it something that resembles livable. Though the barbarians and I have a completely different view on what makes a settlement livable. The Hot Spring where the barbarians bathe, is disgusting. It doesn't seem to matter how often or how deeply I clean it, the elder pair of barbarians are more than capable of desecrating it in a matter of moments. The area around the cooking fire just seems to catch most of the detritus of our lives and gather it in ever growing drifts. The Hall where we eat seems to be holding steady at cluttered rather than disgusting. The Gathering Hall, where we spend so much of our days, is cluttered, but again not too dirty.

I spent so many hours today cleaning around the cook fire and scrubbing furs. I think I spent more time today folding other people's furs than I did sleeping last night. One of the little pools where I normally clean our cooking utensils has run dry and the back up pool seems to be slowly leaking. It never rains around here but it pours.  Though I should say it snows rather more than it rains in general. It is snowing now, I can see it from the window as I huddle beneath a thick fur. My partner has already gone down the hill to our Sleeping Hut, but I have so many more things to accomplish before I can follow.

He has another long ranging hunt in just a few days and he has asked me to accompany him. Our gracious Elders have agreed to stay with the barbarians in our settlement and so I will be venturing forth away from the settlement and the barbarians for the longest I have left in what seems like an eternity.

Yesterday, my partner and I made some changes to the Sleeping Huts of the barbarians. While the youngest had been sleeping down the hill near my partner and I, she has grown old enough that she can move up the hill near the eldest. Our middle barbarian moved into her now empty hut near ours and he seems to be pleased with the arrangement. The youngest barbarian seems even happier with the changes. She can now cause havoc in an entirely new area during the day.

The elder barbarians were raiding another settlement for a good portion of the day today, though I hardly noticed their absence. I don't think I sat still for more than ten minutes at a time the entirety of the day. I have two more huts to clean out before I leave with my partner in five short days.

The eldest barbarian and I both have meetings in the morning at the Halls of Medicine and then I have to take the Matriarch on the westward caravan in the afternoon to visit the vast Market and meet with the person handling the trade of her previous settlement now that she has moved closer to mine. In the evening, I have a meeting with the Scouts, I feel tomorrow will be no more restful than today was.
